<p>Alcoa, TN</strong> – The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) held its “Best Testing Discharge Water Contest” for wastewater treatment plants at the Alcoa Service Center on Wednesday, March 2nd.  This contest was held in conjunction with the annual Best Tasting Water Contest.  Webb Creek Utility District won the Region 2 competition for the best discharge water for the second year in a row.</p>
<p>TAUD Region Two consists of: Blount, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, and Sevier counties.</p>
<p>The utilities from Region Two submitting samples of their discharge water for competition were: the City of Alcoa/Maryville Wastewater Treatment Plant, Hallsdale Powell Utility District, Webb Creek Utility District and West Knox Utility District.</p>
<p>Mitch Loomis with the Regional Tennessee Development District, Mary Short with Rural Development Agency, Scott Holder with Tennessee 811, Greg Mize with TDEC, and Dorothy Rader with the City of Alcoa participated as judges for the contest.  The discharge water samples were judged on their clarity, bouquet (scent/odor), turbidity and pH levels.  Webb Creek Commissioner Robert Vick credited Wastewater Operator Vickie James for the District’s success stating “Vickie is a loyal member of the District staff and makes sure that wastewater discharges meet State of Tennessee requirements to protect the pristine condition of the waters of Webb Creek.”  Webb Creek has been a loyal member of TAUD since 1984.</p>
<p>The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts is the oldest rural water association in the nation and serves as the Tennessee chapter of the National Rural Water Association.  TAUD serves as a source of training, technical assistance, and advocacy to the over 400 water, wastewater, and natural gas utility members within the state. Division of Water Supply</p>
<p>Pursuant to the Tennessee Safe Drinking Water Act (Tennessee Code Annotated 68-221-701 et seq.), the Division of Water Supply conducts a sanitary survey of the waterworks system every two years.</p>
<p>In accordance with the &#8220;<em>Sanitary Survey Manual for Community Public Water Supplies</em>&#8220;, the facility received an outstanding numerical rating, placing it among the State&#8217;s top APPROVED  water systems.</p>
<p>Webb Creek Utility District&#8217;s management and staff are commended for obtaining the highest score awarded                                  by the Division of Water Supply.</p>
<p>Webb Creek Utility District Scored <strong>100%</strong> in 2009.</p>

<p>The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) held its first ever “Best Testing Discharge Water Contest” for wastewater treatment plants at the Alcoa  Service Center on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.  This contest was held in conjunction with the annual Best Tasting Water Contest.  Webb Creek Utility District won the Region 2 competition for the best discharge water.</p>
<p>TAUD Region Two consists of: Blount, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, and Sevier counties.</p>
<p>Eight different utilities from Region Two submitted samples of their discharge water for competition.  The utilities that entered the contest were: the City of Alcoa, First Utility District of Knox County, Hallsdale Powell Utility District, Johnson  Bible College, City of Pigeon Forge, South Blount Utility District, Webb Creek Utility District and West Knox Utility District.</p>
<p>Brian Boyd, National Weather Service; Steve Roberts, TDEC; Mary Short, USDA; Tracy Tramel, SRW and Associates; and Nathan Babelay, McGill and Associates participated as judges for the contest.  The discharge water samples were judged on their clarity, bouquet (scent/odor) turbidity and pH levels.</p>
